Model Train News!

We are so excited to partner with the Seashore Trolley Museum and their new building dedicated to model trains. Located at 195 Log Cabin Road in Kennebunkport, the Seashore Trolley Museum is the world’s first and largest electric railway and transit museum. We will be sending them several of our model trains, where they will be displayed and looked after by experts! To celebrate, we have two programs this month focusing on our model trains and their history, as well as a special discount for Saco residents at the Seashore Trolley Museum.

We’re throwing a special Model Train Send-Off party on Saturday, April 12th at 10:30AM in the Deering Room. This program is open to all ages and especially geared towards children, many of whom have been particularly delighted by our model trains over the years. Come wish the trains well and learn more about the Seashore Trolley Museum’s wonderful new facility!

Join us on Tuesday, April 15th at 6:30 PM for Trains and Trolleys of Saco: The Leavitt Connection. Local expert Phil Morse will present about the Biddeford and Saco Railroad, how it is preserved at the Seashore Trolley Museum, and how it connects to Dyer Library’s model train collection. We’ll reflect on the past 125+ years of Leavitt family community involvement, punctuated by vintage photos and video! It will be a wonderful way to look back on the legacy of the model trains at Dyer Library, as well as learn more about the history of our community.

The Seashore Trolley Museum is celebrating its 86th season in 2025! We encourage everyone to visit, where you can experience history in motion through interactive trolley rides aboard the museum’s heritage electric railroad, which once served as a portion of Maine’s Atlantic Shore Line Railway (1902-1927), check out several outdoor exhibits and trolleys displayed in three carhouses, visit the Restoration Shop and view trolleys currently being restored back to their former glory by museum staff and volunteers, and more!

To celebrate our partnership, Saco residents get free admission to the Seashore Trolley Museum during the month of April –  bring your library card for proof of residence to receive this discount at the door!
